The Governing Body

School governors have a wide range of responsibilities. They help to raise the standards of pupil achievement and plan the school's future direction. Governors are also accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community.

At Old Fletton, We are a lively group of governors, with varying skills and backgrounds. The membership of our Governing Body is listed below (link)

Our role is to provide support to the Senior Management of the school and assist in its efficient running. We have three key roles:
To provide a strategic view of where the school is heading
To act as a critical friend
To hold the school to account for the educational standards it achieves and the quality of education it provides

The governors decide what they want the school to achieve and set the framework for getting there. We take advice from the headteacher, the ‘lead professional’, who is responsible for implementing policies and targets agreed by governors.
Governors have a responsibility to monitor the effectiveness of policies, the achievement and welfare of pupils.

As governors we do not intervene in the day-to-day running of the school, but we visit the school during the day to attend meetings, see pupils in action and meet informally with staff.

We have published our School Profile (link to web) where you will find government statistics on attendance and pupil performance, with accompanying information about our school. For a paper copy of the profile, please visit the school office.

All our governors have equal status. They are elected by different groups such as parents, community and the local authority. We are always eager to recruit new governors, especially parents of our pupils. Being a governor is a rewarding and sociable activity. Our governors are encouraged to participate in all areas of the school life.

As well as full governing body meetings, we have 2 committees:
1. Strategic - for planning and curriculum monitoring
2. Fresh - finance, resources such as staffing and health and safety
You are welcome to look at minutes of meetings, either by asking at the school office or by viewing samples below:
