Young Carers
Young Carers are children and young people under the age of 18 who provide care, assistance or support to another family member who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or has a substance misuse problem. They carry out, often on a regular basis, significant or substantial caring tasks, taking on a level of responsibility that is undesirable relative to their age or development.
We are committed to ensuring that all students get the support they need to have a positive school experience, are happy in school and can achieve their full potential. Some young carers might be doing lots of caring, others just a small amount, but are impacted by the situation at home, for example by worrying about the person with the health condition, or needing to do more things for themselves compared to other students.
There is lots of support available for young carers and their families should they ever need it – both inside and outside of school. Children have the option to join our Young carers club and have access to our 1:1 drop-in sessions. In the community, Centre 33 provides support for young carers up to the age of 25, providing trips, activities and support with wellbeing. To contact them, call 0333 4141 809.
If you think that any of the above applies to your child, and that they might be a young carer, then email Miss Fletcher via the office. Email: office@oldfletton.peterborough.sch.uk
