Celebrating Sports Week at Old Fletton Primary School – Fun, Challenge, and Team Spirit!
Old Fletton Primary School was buzzing with energy, laughter, and determination as we celebrated Sports Week 2025! Each year group took on exciting new challenges, embracing physical activity in creative and adventurous ways.
Year 6 and Year 4: Reaching New Heights on the Climbing Wall
For many of our Year 6 and Year 4 pupils, the highlight of the week was tackling the climbing wall set up on the school playground. With harnesses on and helmets securely fastened, the children showed incredible courage and perseverance as they scaled the wall. It was inspiring to see so many pupils pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones and cheering each other on from below. The sense of achievement at the top – and the high-fives at the bottom – were moments to remember!
Year 5: Taking Aim with Archery
Year 5 swapped their usual PE lessons for something a little different – archery! Under the careful guidance of trained instructors, the children learnt how to safely handle a bow and arrow, taking aim at targets and developing their concentration and focus. There were plenty of cheers as arrows hit the bullseye, and pupils quickly discovered that archery is as much about patience and technique as it is about strength.
Year 3: Kicking Into Action with Taekwondo
Meanwhile, Year 3 had the opportunity to visit a local taekwondo dojo, where they learnt basic stances, kicks, and self-discipline techniques from experienced martial arts coaches. The children demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm, mastering new moves with impressive speed and showing great respect for the instructors and the traditions of the sport.
KS1 and Early Years: Dancing with Energy and Passion
Our youngest pupils in KS1 and Early Years took part in something truly special: learning the Haka and other sporting dance moves! The playground became a stage of rhythm and energy as the children stomped, clapped, and chanted their way through the Haka, followed by fun movement games and dance routines inspired by different sports cultures around the world. The children loved expressing themselves through movement, and their enthusiasm was infectious!
The Nest and KS1: Bouncing Through the Inflatable Obstacle Course
Finally, pupils in The Nest and KS1 had a fantastic time tackling the inflatable obstacle course. With tunnels to crawl through, walls to climb, and slides to zoom down, it was a real test of agility and balance – but mostly it was about having fun! Laughter echoed across the playground as children raced their friends and encouraged each other along the way.
A Week to Remember at Old Fletton Primary School
Sports Week 2025 was not just about physical activity; it was about teamwork, trying new things, building resilience, and having fun together. Whether climbing high, hitting a target, mastering a martial arts move, or dancing with passion, every child found a way to shine.
A big thank you to all the staff, visiting coaches, and volunteers who helped make this week such a huge success. We’re already looking forward to seeing what new adventures next year’s Sports Week at Old Fletton Primary School will bring!
Our annual children’s questionnaire has once again provided valuable insight into how our pupils feel about school life. We’re incredibly proud that our children continue to tell us they are happy in school and feel challenged by their learning. Their voices matter, and it’s reassuring to know that their daily experiences reflect the values we work so hard to uphold.
Our Bewilderwood Adventure!
Year 3 had an incredible adventure to Bewilderwood! After reading A Boggle at
Bewilderwood in our English lessons, we couldn’t wait to find out if Boggles and Twiggles
really existed. Spirits were high as we boarded the coach for our two-hour journey – the
sun was shining and excitement filled the air!
When we arrived, we had a quick snack to fuel our adventures… then it was time to
explore!
One of our first adventures was a boat ride across the Scaaaary Lake, where Mildred the
Crocklebog was lurking, ready to squirt us as we floated past! There were squeals and
laughter as we dodged the spray.
Next, we stepped into the magical heart of Bewilderwood. We zoomed along wobbly wires,
whooshed down huge slides, and tiptoed carefully across the Broken Bridge. We spotted
so many places from the book – the Boggle Village, the Twiggle Houses, and even the
Witch’s cottage!
One of the biggest challenges was the Sky Maze – but we didn’t get lost! Lots of us
managed to solve the clues and find our way back down.
Before we knew it, it was time to go home. We climbed onto the coach – a lot sleepier than
on the way and full of amazing memories. The journey home was much quieter… because
some of us were fast asleep, dreaming of Boggles, Twiggles, and a magical day in the
woods.
It was a delight to see parents in school, enjoying their children living the dream as rock stars.
Rocksteady sessions take place every Friday afternoon, and this was a chance to celebrate these music lessons with a final rocking concert. If your child is interested in joining a rock band, then please ask your teacher for more information.
The entire school took part in a Pancake Race to celebrate Pancake Day - we all had a fabulous time!
Another sunny days at Whipsnade for year 2!
Once again, as part of their science learning, Year 2 visited Whipsnade Zoo on 6th June. Despite the weather looking like it would be a bit damp, we enjoyed a light breeze and even some sunshine! The children learnt about animal adaptations - did you know giraffes are able to kick forwards, backwards and sideways to protect themselves from predators? We were treated to such a show by the ostriches, some very noisy Rockhopper Penguins and a super close-up view of the otters.
The children were fantastic and were definitely exhausted from a day of walking!
Pupils enjoyed a trip that was out of this world!
Sunny Summer Fayre!
