SEND
Welcome to the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities page.
Old Fletton Primary School prides itself on its delivery of education for children with a range of identified needs and disabilities including, but not limited to; Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Chromosomal learning needs and physical disabilities, including visual and hearing losses.
In line with our overall school Care Values for all our children, we believe those with SEND are entitled to an inclusive learning placement, adapted to individual needs, encompassing high expectations and outcomes for all, in a warm, welcoming and supportive environment.
Our experienced teaching and support staff deliver daily interventions and adaptations in class via our Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP), designed to identify and develop practices that allow our pupils to continue to thrive and progress alongside their peers. For those pupils with needs that require a more specialist environment, we have adapted learning spaces, including our Nest, a small group provision, for children with a range of high level need, that delivers individualised curriculums which include interventions such as Attention Autism sessions and Intensive Interactions, designed to develop communication and engagement in learning. Our awareness that needs can be limiting beyond learning, enables us to adapt social interaction spaces, support physical needs, such as meal times, and complete intimate care for those that require this level of support.
Our qualified SENCO, Mrs Shaw, works closely with families and professionals to engage external agencies for diagnosis referrals, Education Health Care Needs Assessments and support for those families with high needs children, within the community. As part of her role, she also completes all legal framework documentations and meetings for Early Help Assessments (EHA) and Annual Reviews, for those who already have Education Health Care Plans (EHCP) in place, as well as liaising with local authority teams for Early Support Pathway referrals for those pupils that are not yet 5 years of age, and the Speech and Language Team.
She can be contacted directly at sshaw@oldfletton.peterborough.sch.uk.
