The purpose of reading assessment is to ensure that all pupils: are able to apply their phonics and other reading strategies so that they can decode at least at an age appropriate level (reading age); can read fluently therefore gaining meaning from the text (fluency) and are able to comprehend what they have read using the following skills:-

  • retrieval of information
  • understanding of vocabulary
  • summarising
  • inferring
  • predicting
  • explaining (comprehension skills)

This is achieved at Old Fletton Primary School through using daily formative assessment and summative assessments that are specific to each year group - see below
