Language Development
The link below shows, in words and pictures, the first 100 words that have been provided by our local Speech and Language Department to help support early language development and provide the foundations for effective communication.
Have fun learning some of the words and remember to talk with the class teacher if you have any concerns regarding your child's speech or communication skills or if you would like some ideas on how to promote these important words or concepts.
Children need to hear the word lots of times before they can remember it for themselves; repetition is the key!
You could...
explain the word, show a picture, do a related action, make links to similar things, describe things about the word, use it in lots of different sentences, try to link it to reading stories or use the word in conversations throughout the day. Families with English as an additional language could translate the word into the home language and talk about the meaning in their home language.
